For travel Speech Language Pathologist Daphne, every assignment is an opportunity to improve patient care, support clinical teams, and build meaningful connections.
A loyal AHS traveler since 2022, Daphne recently completed an assignment at Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua, Hawaii. During her time there, she demonstrated the expertise, leadership, and compassion that make her such an impactful travel clinician.
According to her recruiter Becca, Daphne consistently transforms the environments she joins.
Every assignment she takes on leaves the facility stronger and the care team better supported.
Daphne is known for noticing the small details that make a meaningful difference for her patients.
In one case, she treated a stroke patient who could not speak but anxiously watched the clock as visiting hours approached. Realizing the patient was anticipating her husband’s arrival, Daphne found a comb and clips and helped her fix her hair so she would feel confident when he arrived.
Her clinical judgment has also helped identify complex neurological conditions.
During one evaluation, Daphne suspected a degenerative neurogenic disease within minutes of assessing a patient with swallowing difficulties. After alerting the hospitalist and neurologist, the patient was later diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, allowing the care team to begin appropriate treatment.
Daphne consistently looks for ways to strengthen the teams around her.
At one facility, the lead SLP spent significant time manually compiling a daily patient caseload list. Daphne suggested working with the IT department to automate the process, creating a more accurate and efficient system that improved productivity across the department.
She has also advocated for improved workspace and equipment that help clinicians provide patient care more efficiently.
Daphne quickly integrates into every team she joins.
At Sierra Nevada Community Hospital, she received the Spirit of Aloha Award in recognition of her teamwork, leadership, and compassionate service to patients.
Colleagues often comment on her ability to collaborate across departments and clearly communicate complex clinical findings in her evaluation reports.
One of the most unique aspects of Daphne’s travel career is the relationships she builds along the way.
She frequently explores new places with coworkers on weekends and stays connected with colleagues from assignments years ago. Many of these friendships continue long after her contracts end.
These connections reflect the positive impact she has on the people around her both inside and outside the hospital.
For Becca, working with Daphne has been one of the most rewarding parts of her recruiting career.
Daphne consistently brings positivity, compassion, and professionalism to every assignment she takes.
As she prepares for her next assignment in Oregon, another healthcare team will soon experience the expertise, dedication, and kindness that define a true AHS Travel Champion.
